Skilled workers can apply for this visa independently based upon qualifications, age, experience and accreditation of their skills from the relevant Skills Authority.

This visa is points tested and applicants need to obtain a minimum of 65 points to be eligible. 

To apply for this visa, you must submit an expression of interest (EOI) and be invited by SkillSelect. The Skills Select database is highly competitive and minimum points to get an Invitation to Apply have progressively been getting higher. General criteria to be eligible for this visa include:

Basic Eligibility

  • You must be aged under 45 when invited to apply for the visa
  • have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation
  • have at least competent English skills
  • satisfy the points test
  • have met health and character tests

This is a 5 year permanent resident visa, providing access to Australia's public health care scheme, allows you to work and study in Australia and if eligible a pathway to Australian citizenship.
