103- Parent Visa

This is a permanent visa that allows the parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to move to Australia. The key criteria of this visa include:

  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • meet the balance of family test
    • At least half of your children live permanently in Australia, or
    • More of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other country
  • have an eligible sponsor
  • have an Assurance of Support
  • meet health and character test
  • not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa

Due to the limited spots available in the Migration Program, this visa is subject to capping and queuing in terms of when it will be processed. This visa falls below the priority processing of the Contributory Parent Visas that take precedence. Processing of this visa can take upwards to 30+ years.  Although your parents can be in or out of Australia at lodgement, they are not entitled to receive a bridging visa. On the positive side unlike the aged visas, migrants with young parents can apply for this visa.

804  - Aged Parent Visa

This permanent visa lets an aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay in Australia.

This visa is an onshore visa and can be applied in Australia. The key criteria for this visa include:

  • be old enough to receive the age pension
  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • meet the balance of family test
    • At least half of your children live permanently in Australia, or
    • More of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other country
  • have an eligible sponsor
  • have an Assurance of Support
  • meet health and character test
  • not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa

The key benefit of this visa is your parents can stay with you onshore until the visa is processed.  Similar to the 103 Parent Visa, however, they are behind in processing priority to the Contributory visas and processing times are exceptionally long.  Parents can stay onshore on a bridging visa until the visa gets processed.

There are many parent visa categories available, and each have pros and cons.  Contact our professional Registered Migration Agents to discuss the best option for your parents, don’t risk making a mistake and losing precious time in uniting with your parents. At 1to1 AMS we specialise in Parent Visas, we understand the cultural ties migrants have with their parents and the importance of family, we have been doing this for 16 years, you can leave it in our safe hands.
