The Employer Sponsored Visa program allows approved Australian employers to bring in qualified professionals to meet labour market gaps. The Australian Government, guided by Jobs and Skills Australia, identifies occupations in shortage across key sectors.
Responding to a more dynamic employment market, the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (Subclass 482) was replaced by the Skills in Demand (SID) visa in December 2024, still under Subclass 482 but with a new framework.
Employers must be approved sponsors and nominate a position that aligns with an eligible occupation list and meets all other relevant criteria. These reforms aimed to streamline skilled migration, prioritise high-demand sectors and offer more equitable access to permanent residency.
