188- ENTREPRENEUR STREAM

This visa is for startup and entrepreneurs that have endorsement from a State or Territory government agency. Key requirements of this stream include;

  • Nomination by a State or Territory Government
  • Under 55 years old (unless waived by nominator)
  • Have a complying entrepreneur activity*
  • Have at least competent English
  • Meet health and character requirement
  • Not have a previous visa refusal or cancellation

 

*Complying Entrepreneur Activity

A complying entrepreneur activity must relate to an innovative idea that will lead to:

  • the commercialisation of a product or service in Australia, or
  • the development of an enterprise or business in Australia

This activity must not relate to any of the following categories:

  • residential real estate
  • labour hire
  • purchase of an existing enterprise or a franchise in Australia

Post 1 July 2021, you must be endorsed by your nominating State or Territory government agency to develop your entrepreneurial concepts.

STAGE 2 - PERMANENT

888 – ENTREPRENEUR STREAM

The next step from the Provisional Entrepreneur stream is this permanent visa 888 Entrepreneur Stream. 

Key criteria for the Provisional Entrepreneur to Permanent stream include:

  • Confirmation of current nomination by a State or Territory Government
  • have demonstrated overall a successful record of undertaking entrepreneurial activities in Australia while holding the provisional visa
  • ​ must have held a subclass 188 visa in the Entrepreneur stream for 3 years
  • have lived in Australia for at least 2 years while on the provisional visa
  • Not involved in unacceptable business or investment activities.
  • Commitment to continuing business activities in Australia
  • Meet health and character requirement
  • Not have a previous visa refusal or cancellation

Upon meeting all visa requirements applicants obtain permanent residency and if eligible can apply for Australian citizenship.
